Programm KBBE Gewidis

Programm KBBE GEWIDIS « Exploiting Genome Wide Diversity for disease resistance improvement in oilseed rape » is coordinated by Régine Delourme (INRA Igepp)

The overall objective of the cooperative project is to progress the most important oil crop in Europe, oilseed rape (Brassica napus L.), towards multi-resistant varieties.

Therefore, a consortium of research groups from France and Germany (GeWiDis) will explore resistance sources which have been identified in the progenitors of OSR, especially in B. oleracea. In order to be successful, there is a need for a better integration of research on the genetics of disease resistance in Brassica species and for a wider exploitation of genetic diversity for breeding.

GeWiDis will perform a comparative analysis of the structural organization and allelic diversity of resistance factors to most important diseases of OSR in diverse Brassica materials through the exploitation of a wide genetic diversity.

The project tasks will addres:

  • the localisation of resistance factors involved in the different diseases and their relationships,
  • (the impact of Brassica genome organization on the genetic diversity,
  • identification of key genomic regions for resistance and valuable resistance alleles in Brassica resources
  • introgression of new resistance variability in OSR.

The project will take advantage of the complementary expertise of partners in France and Germany to generate new knowledge on OSR resistance, through a multi-disease integrated approach implementing high throughput phenotypic and genomic data from original Brassica genetic resources.
