The main issue of the thesis is to evaluate the potential of root architecture as a genetic factor contributing to limit Aphanomyces root rot development in pea.

The work conducted will (i) analyze the relationship between genetic variability available in pea for Aphanomyces resistance and architectural traits, (ii) study the genomic organization of loci controlling root architecture and Aphanomyces resistance using  genome-wide association genetics and (iii) to provide tools and strategies for constructing theoretical pea ideotypes combining resistance and architecture, in order to reduce disease severity.
